Many thanks to all of you who came to our gig at the BScene Festival. We had a great time, especially as we tried out our new “enlarged” line-up featuring our friends Tino on drums and percussion, Romeo on baritone sax and Pascal on trumpet. Check out some pictures here.

Jarvis Cocker und sein ipod

So, what is music? fragt Christine Smallwood vom (generell grossartigen) News-Medium The Nation ganz unbescheiden den ehemaligen Pulp Frontmann. Jarvis hat einiges, sehr interessantes zu erzählen, von seinem ipod, loops und downloads. Besonders schön finde ich, wie er mit seiner Band in einer Gallerie in Paris geprobt hat:

“We set up in this small gallery space and rehearsed, and every now and again we’d have hours where people would bring an instrument and play along, and then we provided the music to different classes, like a yoga class and a belly-dancing class. What I liked was that there were spontaneous moments–the music happened for ten minutes or however long it took, and then it was gone.”

I’m afraid we d0n’t understand a word, it’s all in Czech… But we have made amazing experiences in Czech Republic so far, in Prag as well as at last years Mighty Sounds Festival, enthusiastic audiences and very friendly support. Kutiman Mashups

Kutiman zeigt auf thru-you.com seine Youtube-Video-Mashups. Track 1 ist sicher der Anspieltip, Big Band Funk vom feinsten. Aber auch die folgenden lohnen sich, von Reggae (2) über komischen Folk’n'Bass (4) bis zu einem Song, für den Kanye West mit TV on the Radio kollaboriert hat. Oder so.

Mit dabei, neben vielen weniger bekannten Musikern, der grossartige Bernard Purdy. Was wiedermal zeigt: eine Band ist so gut wie ihr Schlagzeuger.

Und wieviel Zeit verbringt man auf Youtube und am Schneidepult, bis man sowas gebastelt hat? Dann doch lieber Schlagzeug üben.

BScene 2009 - enlarge your basel

We’re not part of the fun this year (again…) but we still are related to it in so and so many ways… and, like every band in basel, feel indebted to it. A gig at Bscene was what our ambition first aimed at, so many years ago, and we will try to make it again. Big plans drawn up already. Next year.

But for now check out this years line up. The Leopold Krauss Wellenkapelle is playing their irresistible black forest surf, Al Jawahla and The Pullup Orchestra will be rraaackin’ with danceable horn ridden tunes, and what else is there: The bianca Story, supergroup Dogs Bollocks, mayhem with Navel and Cryptonites etc. etc.
